Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Cast on and ribbingCast on 96 sts onto the 3.5 mm circular needle, join without twisting and mark the start of the round. Every round: *k1, p1* 48 times. Work the rib for 4 cm (12 rounds). (96 sts)
2. 2Increase roundChange to the 4 mm circular needle. Increase round: *k3, M1* 32 times. (128 sts) These 32 extra stitches give the hat its slouch.
3. 3Eyelet pattern (8 rounds)Rounds 1-3: knit. (128 sts) Round 4: *yo, k2tog, k2* 32 times. (128 sts) Rounds 5-7: knit. Round 8: *k2, yo, k2tog* 32 times. (128 sts) Each yo is balanced by a k2tog, so the stitch count never changes. The eyelets alternate position from one eyelet round to the next.
4. 4BodyWork Rounds 1-8 a total of 6 times (48 rounds, about 16 cm above the increase round). After Round 8 of the last repeat, move on to the crown.
5. 5Crown decreasesSet-up: *k16, pm* 8 times (the last marker is the round start). Decrease round: *knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog* 8 times. First alternate one decrease round and one plain round 7 times: 120, 112, 104, 96, 88, 80, 72 sts. Then work every round as a decrease round: 64, 56, 48, 40, 32, 24, 16 sts. Last round: *k2tog* 8 times. (8 sts)
6. 6Finishing and blockingCut the yarn, thread it through the remaining 8 sts, pull tight, secure inside and weave in the ends. To open up the eyelets, soak the hat, squeeze out the water, slip a dinner plate (about 26 cm across) inside and let it dry on the plate. This spreads the body nicely without stretching the rib.
