Chunky Oversized Cardigan

1. 1BackCast on 50 (54, 58, 63) sts. Work 8 rows of garter stitch (knit every row). Change to stockinette (knit RS, purl WS). When the piece measures 66 (68, 70, 72) cm in total, bind off loosely. Mark 16 (17, 19, 21) shoulder sts at each end of the bound-off edge; the center 18 (20, 20, 21) sts are the back neck.
2. 2Right frontCast on 22 (24, 26, 28) sts and work 8 rows of garter. Then: RS rows knit all sts; WS rows purl to last 4 sts, k4. The 4 sts at the front edge continue as a garter band. At 66 (68, 70, 72) cm, bind off 16 (17, 19, 21) shoulder sts at the beginning of a WS row (armhole side) and finish the row. Work a 10 (11, 11, 12) cm garter collar extension on the remaining 6 (7, 7, 7) sts and bind off.
3. 3Left frontBegin as for the right front, but on WS rows: k4, purl the remaining sts. At 66 (68, 70, 72) cm, bind off 16 (17, 19, 21) shoulder sts at the beginning of a RS row. Work a 10 (11, 11, 12) cm garter collar extension on the remaining 6 (7, 7, 7) sts and bind off.
4. 4SleevesCast on 26 (28, 28, 30) sts and work 8 rows of garter. Change to stockinette and increase 1 st at each edge every 6th row 7 (7, 8, 8) times. (40 (42, 44, 46) sts) When the sleeve measures 42 (42, 43, 43) cm, bind off. Make a second sleeve.
5. 5AssemblySew the front shoulder sts to the back shoulder sections. Sew the ends of the two collar extensions together at center back, then sew one edge of the extensions along the 18 (20, 20, 21) back neck sts. Match the center of each sleeve top to the shoulder seam and sew the sleeve in, reaching 22 (23, 24, 25) cm down from the shoulder on each side. Sew the side and underarm seams.
6. 6FinishingWeave the thick ends a long way into the seams so they don't work loose. Lightly dampen the cardigan and dry flat; avoid a hot iron on acrylic blends.
