1. 1Cast on and bottom ribbingCast on 40 sts, divide over 4 needles, 10 per needle, join without twisting and mark the beginning of the round. Work *k2, p2* rib for 8 rounds.
2. 2Cable patternThe pattern is a 10-stitch repeat worked 4 times around. Rounds 1-5: *p2, k4, p2, k2* x4. Round 6: *p2, C4F, p2, k2* x4. Work this 6-round pattern 7 times in total (42 rounds). Each needle holds exactly one repeat (10 sts), so no cable is split across needles.
3. 3Top ribbingWork *k2, p2* rib for 8 rounds. The rib keeps the top from flaring and hugs the hand.
4. 4Bind offBind off loosely in pattern, knitting the knits and purling the purls. The opening has to pass over the hand, so you can use a needle one size larger for the bind-off.
5. 5FinishingWeave in the ends on the inside and knit the second wrist warmer the same way. Soak both in lukewarm water and press out the water with a towel; straighten the cables with your fingers and dry flat. Don't press them with an iron, so the cables stay plump.
