Knitted Gloves with Fingers

1. 1Cuff ribbingCast on 48 (56) sts, divide over 4 needles, join without twisting and place a marker. Work *k2, p2* rib for 7 cm (about 24 rounds). Then knit 2 rounds.
2. 2Thumb gussetSetup round: pm, k1, pm, knit to end. Increase round: sm, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, knit to end (2 sts increased). Knit 2 rounds. Work the increase round and two plain rounds 7 (8) times in total: there are 15 (17) sts between the markers and 62 (72) sts in total. On the next round place these 15 (17) sts on waste yarn, cast on 1 st over the gap and finish the round: 48 (56) sts.
3. 3HandKnit 14 (16) rounds (about 4-4.5 cm); the glove should reach the base of your little finger. From now on stitches are counted from the beginning of the round: the newly cast-on stitch at the thumb side is stitch 1. Both gloves are worked the same; you choose which side is the palm when you put them on.
4. 4Little fingerPlace stitches 20-29 (23-34) of the round, that is 10 (12) sts, on three needles; put the remaining 38 (44) sts on waste yarn. Knit these stitches and cast on 2 sts across the gap between the two ends: 12 (14) sts. Knit 18 (21) rounds, or until 0.5 cm short of your fingertip. Tip: k2tog all around (6 (7) sts), knit 1 round, k2tog again (3 (4) sts; with an odd number, knit the last stitch). Cut the yarn, thread it through the remaining stitches and pull tight.
5. 5Upper handReturn the 38 (44) held sts to the needles, join yarn at the base of the little finger and knit all stitches, picking up 2 sts from the 2 cast-on sts of the little finger: 40 (46) sts. Knit 4 rounds. These rounds make the other fingers start a little higher than the little finger.
6. 6Ring fingerPlace on the needles the 6 (7) sts on one side of the little finger (stitches 14-19 (16-22) of the original round), the 2 sts picked up at the base of the little finger, and the 6 (7) sts on the other side (30-35 (35-41)); hold the rest. Knit them and cast on 2 sts across the gap toward the middle finger: 16 (18) sts. Knit 22 (25) rounds and close the tip as for the little finger (8 (9), then 4 (5) sts).
7. 7Middle fingerPlace the next 6 (7) sts (8-13 (9-15)) on a needle, pick up 2 sts from the 2 cast-on sts of the ring finger, knit the 6 (7) sts on the opposite side (36-41 (42-48)) and cast on 2 sts across the gap toward the index finger: 16 (18) sts. Knit 24 (27) rounds and close the same way.
8. 8Index fingerPlace the remaining 14 (16) sts (42-48 and 1-7 (49-56 and 1-8)) on the needles and pick up 2 sts from the 2 cast-on sts of the middle finger: 16 (18) sts. Knit 22 (25) rounds and close the same way.
9. 9ThumbPlace the 15 (17) held sts on the needles, join yarn and knit them, then pick up 3 sts from the gap on the hand side: 18 (20) sts. Knit 18 (21) rounds. Tip: k2tog all around (9 (10)), knit 1 round, k2tog again (5 sts; with an odd number, knit the last stitch). Thread the yarn through the stitches and pull tight.
10. 10FinishingWeave in all ends on the inside, using them to close the small holes where stitches were picked up and cast on between the fingers. Knit the second glove the same way. Wash the gloves in lukewarm water, press out the water with a towel and dry flat, straightening the fingers.
