Crochet Hijab Underscarf Bonnet

1. 1BeginningCh 42. Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each remaining ch. Turn. (40 hdc) The length of this row is the depth of the bonnet: about 22 cm from the front (forehead) edge to the back.
2. 2Stretchy ribbingRow 2 and all following rows: ch 2 (doesn't count), hdc BLO in each st. Turn. (40 hdc) The rows line up around the head; working in the back loop makes the fabric stretch like an accordion in that direction.
3. 3LengthWork 64 rows in total (about 49 cm). Stretch the piece gently around your forehead, over your ears and around the nape; the ends should meet comfortably without being loose. Add or remove rows if needed. Don't cut the yarn.
4. 4Making the tubeFold the last row onto the foundation chain with right sides together. Sl st the two edges together, working through matching stitches of both. (40 sl st) This seam sits at the centre back of the neck. Turn the piece right side out.
5. 5Front edgeOne edge of the tube is the front (face) edge. Join the yarn here and work 1 sc in each row end around; sl st to first sc. (64 sc) This round straightens the edge and gives a neat line on the forehead.
6. 6Drawstring back and finishingChain a 90-chain cord and knot both ends. Using the yarn needle, weave the cord in and out through every second row end along the other edge of the tube. Put the bonnet on, pull the cord at the nape to gather the back, tie a bow and tuck it in. Weave in all ends.
