1. 1Sole round 1Ch 13/15/17. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of next 9/11/13 ch; work 5 hdc in last ch (toe). Without turning, continue along the other side of the chain: hdc in each of next 9/11/13 ch, 4 hdc in the ch holding the first hdc (heel). Join with sl st to first hdc (28/32/36 hdc). From now on every round starts with ch 2 (does not count as a stitch) and is joined with a sl st to the first stitch; the round begins at the heel.
2. 2Sole rounds 2 and 3Round 2: 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 9/11/13, 2 hdc in each of next 5, hdc in next 9/11/13, 2 hdc in each of last 4 (38/42/46 hdc). Round 3: (hdc in next, 2 hdc in next) once, hdc in next 9/11/13, (hdc in next, 2 hdc in next) 5 times, hdc in next 9/11/13, (hdc in next, 2 hdc in next) 4 times (48/52/56 hdc). The sole should lie as a flat oval; if it ruffles, crochet a little tighter.
3. 3SidesRound 4: ch 1 (does not count), sc in back loop only of each st (48/52/56 sc). This round creates a clear ridge between sole and sides. Round 5: ch 2 (does not count), hdc in each st (48/52/56 hdc).
4. 4Toe decreasesRound 6: ch 1, sc 8/10/12, sc2tog 12 times, sc 16/18/20 (36/40/44 sts). Round 7: ch 1, sc 8/10/12, sc2tog 6 times, sc 16/18/20 (30/34/38 sts). Round 8: ch 1, sc 8/10/12, sc2tog 3 times, sc 16/18/20 (27/31/35 sts). The decreases gather right over the toe and close the top of the bootie.
5. 5CuffRound 9: ch 2 (does not count), hdc in each st to last 2 sts, hdc2tog over last 2 sts (26/30/34 sts). From round 10: ch 2 (does not count), *FPdc, BPdc* around; join with sl st. Each FPdc is worked over an FPdc of the previous round. Work 5/6/7 rib rounds in total.
6. 6FinishingCut the yarn leaving 15 cm, pull through the last loop and tighten. Weave the ends inside through the stitches with a yarn needle, leaving no knots on the sole. Make the second bootie the same way; if you like, dampen lightly, stuff with paper to shape and let dry.
