1. 1Foundation chainCh 62. The chain must be a multiple of 4 + 2 (4 x 15 + 2). Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch* 15 times. Turn. (16 sc, 15 loops)
2. 2Mesh pattern (2 rows)Row 2: ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), sc in first loop, *ch 5, sc in next loop* 14 times, ch 2, dc in last sc. Turn. (15 sc; 14 full loops and a half loop at each edge) Row 3: ch 1, sc in first dc, *ch 5, sc in next full loop* 14 times, ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of the turning ch-5. Turn. (16 sc, 15 loops) Row 3 returns to the same count as Row 1.
3. 3BodyAlternate Rows 2 and 3 a total of 74 times (149 rows, about 175 cm before blocking). The last row must be a Row 3. Count your loops every 20 rows; every Row 3 should have 15 loops.
4. 4Shell borderAfter the last row, without turning: ch 1, sc in first sc, *5 dc in next loop, sc in next sc* 15 times. (15 shells) Fasten off. Cast-on end: join the yarn in the first ch of the foundation chain; *skip 1 ch, 5 dc in next ch, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch (at the base of a Row 1 sc)* 15 times. (15 shells)
5. 5Finishing and blockingWeave the ends into the edge sc. Soak the scarf in lukewarm water for 15 minutes, press out the water with a towel and pin it out to 20 cm wide, opening each shell individually. Chain mesh lengthens noticeably when blocked and forms neat diamonds.
