Crochet Ruffle Scrunchie

Instructions

Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1First round on the hair tiePut a slip knot on the hook. Insert the hook through the hair tie, catch the yarn and pull it to the front, then ch 1 to secure. Work 60 sc around the hair tie, inserting the hook through the middle of the tie each time; push the stitches together so they cover the tie completely. Sl st to the first sc (60).
2. 2Ruffle roundCh 3 (counts as the first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 3 dc in each following sc, and sl st to the top of the ch-3 (180 dc). Working 3 dc into one stitch makes the edge ruffle by itself.
3. 3Optional extra ruffleFor a fuller scrunchie, work 4 dc instead of 3 into each sc on the ruffle round (240 dc), or with a second color work 1 sl st in each stitch of the ruffle round for a thin contrast edge.
4. 4FinishingCut the yarn leaving 15 cm and pull it through the last loop. Weave the ends through the sc round with the tapestry needle and trim. Stretch and release the scrunchie a few times so the stitches spread evenly around the tie.
