Popcorn Stitch Crochet Scrubber (Lif)

1. 1Learning the popcorn stitchFor a pc, work 5 dc into the same stitch. Take the hook out of the last loop but hold the loop with your finger. Insert the hook from front to back into the top of the first of the 5 dc, catch the dropped loop and pull it through the first dc; the stitches bunch forwards into a ball. Ch 1 to close; this chain is part of the popcorn and is not counted separately.
2. 2Round 1Make a magic ring. Ch 2 (does not count), 12 dc into the ring, join with a sl st to the top of the first dc (12 dc). Pull the ring closed. All rounds are worked with the right side facing and the work is never turned, so the popcorns always pop to the same side.
3. 3Round 2Ch 2 (does not count), (1 pc, 1 dc) in each st: that is, a popcorn and then 1 dc next to it in the same stitch. Join with a sl st to the top of the first pc (12 pc + 12 dc = 24 sts).
4. 4Round 3Ch 2 (does not count), *1 dc in the top of the pc, 2 dc in the next dc* 12 times, join with a sl st (36 dc). To find the top of a popcorn, look for the stitch just behind its closing chain.
5. 5Round 4Ch 2 (does not count), *1 pc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st* 12 times, sl st to the first pc (12 pc + 36 dc = 48 sts). The popcorns of this round sit directly outside those of round 2 and line up like rays across the surface.
6. 6Round 5 and hanging loopCh 1, 1 sc in each st, sl st to the first sc (48 sc). This round firms up the edge and keeps the shape. Then ch 12 and sl st into the same stitch to make the loop; work 16 sc into the loop and finish with a sl st.
7. 7FinishingFasten off and weave the ends on the back in two different directions with the yarn needle. The popcorns should stand out large and puffy on the front; if they sink to the back, make sure you insert the hook from front to back when closing them. Rinse the scrubber well after each use and hang it by its loop to dry.
