1. 1CrownEvery round starts with ch 2 (doesn't count) and is joined with a sl st to the first hdc. Round 1: 9 hdc in a magic ring. (9) Round 2: inc in each st. (18) Round 3: *1 hdc, inc* 9 times. (27) Round 4: *2 hdc, inc* 9 times. (36)
2. 2Crown circleRound 5: *3 hdc, inc* 9 times. (45) Round 6: *4 hdc, inc* 9 times. (54) Round 7: *5 hdc, inc* 9 times. (63) Round 8: *6 hdc, inc* 9 times. (72) The circle should lie flat; if it ruffles you have too many stitches for your tension, and if it cups you have too few, so change hook size.
3. 3BodyRounds 9-18: ch 2, hdc in each st, sl st to first hdc. (72) These 10 rounds add about 10 cm of straight height. Try the hat on with the join at the back of the neck.
4. 4BrimRounds 19-22: ch 1 (doesn't count), sc in each st, sl st to first sc. (72) These 4 rounds of single crochet make the edge slightly firmer so the hat stays in place.
5. 5FinishingCut the yarn leaving 15 cm and pull it through the last loop. Weave the ends in on the inside, changing direction a few times. Sew an 8 cm pom-pom on top if you like.
