Striped Garter Stitch Blanket

Instructions

Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Cast onWith color A, cast on 170 sts onto the 5 mm circular needle. Use a circular needle to hold all the stitches, but knit flat, turning at the end of each row (170 sts).
2. 2First stripeKnit every row for 12 rows. In garter stitch every 2 rows make one ridge, so your stripe has 6 ridges and measures about 3.5 cm (170 sts).
3. 3Color sequenceChange to B and knit 12 rows, then knit 12 rows with C. Then knit 12 rows with A again. Work this 36-row repeat of A, B and C stripes 11 times in total (396 rows).
4. 4Changing colorsColors always change at the same edge. You can leave the unused yarn at the edge without cutting it; every 2 rows, twist the working yarn once around the waiting yarn to carry it up, so no long loops form at the edge.
5. 5Last stripeSo both ends of the blanket match, finish with 12 more rows in color A. You should have 408 rows and about 120 cm in total (170 sts).
6. 6Bind offOn the next row bind off loosely knitwise. Keep the yarn relaxed so the edge does not pull in.
7. 7FinishingWeave in all ends inside stripes of the same color using the yarn needle. Dampen the blanket and dry it flat to size; garter stitch lies flat on its own and needs no ironing.
