1. 1BodyWith the 3.5 mm 80 cm circular and MC, cast on 198 (220, 242, 264) sts and join; the round begins at the left side, and place a marker for the right side after 99 (110, 121, 132) sts. Work *k1, p1* rib for 6 cm. Change to 4 mm and knit; when the total length is 38 (39, 40, 41) cm, end the last round 7 (8, 9, 10) sts before the beginning-of-round marker. At each side place 14 (16, 18, 20) sts (7 (8, 9, 10) on each side of the marker) on waste yarn. 85 (94, 103, 112) sts remain for the front and for the back.
2. 2SleevesWith 3.5 mm DPNs and MC, cast on 48 (50, 52, 54) sts, join and work *k1, p1* rib for 6 cm. Change to 4 mm and knit; increase 1 st on each side of the beginning of round every 10th (10th, 8th, 7th) round 9 (11, 14, 16) times. (66 (72, 80, 86) sts) When the sleeve measures 46 (47, 48, 48) cm, place 7 (8, 9, 10) sts on each side of the beginning of round, 14 (16, 18, 20) sts in all, on waste yarn. (52 (56, 62, 66) sts) Make a second sleeve.
3. 3Joining the yokeOn the 4.5 mm 80 cm circular with MC, knit the 52 (56, 62, 66) sts of one sleeve, the 85 (94, 103, 112) back sts, the 52 (56, 62, 66) sts of the second sleeve and the 85 (94, 103, 112) front sts. (274 (300, 330, 356) sts) The round begins at the left back underarm. Knit 6 (8, 10, 12) rounds in MC. Adjustment round: k2tog evenly spaced to decrease 2 sts for S and L, 4 sts for M and XL. (272 (296, 328, 352) sts, a multiple of 8)
4. 4Colorwork band A (8-st repeat, 13 rounds)Round 1: MC. Round 2: *1 C1, 1 MC*. Round 3: MC. Round 4: *1 C2, 3 MC, 1 C2, 3 MC*. Round 5: *3 MC, 3 C2, 2 MC*. Round 6: *2 MC, 2 C2, 1 MC, 2 C2, 1 MC*. Round 7: *1 MC, 2 C2, 3 MC, 2 C2*. Round 8: as round 6. Round 9: as round 5. Round 10: as round 4. Round 11: MC. Round 12: *1 C1, 1 MC*. Round 13: MC. Rounds 4-10 form a hollow diamond. Knit the next round in MC, then work decrease round 1 (MC): *k2, k2tog*. (204 (222, 246, 264) sts, a multiple of 6)
5. 5Colorwork band B (6-st repeat, 9 rounds)Round 1: MC. Round 2: *1 C1, 2 MC*. Round 3: MC. Round 4: *2 MC, 1 C2, 3 MC*. Round 5: *1 MC, 3 C2, 2 MC*. Round 6: as round 4. Round 7: MC. Round 8: *1 C1, 2 MC*. Round 9: MC. Knit one round in MC, then work decrease round 2 (MC): *k1, k2tog*. (136 (148, 164, 176) sts, a multiple of 4)
6. 6Colorwork band C and final decreaseBand C (4-st repeat, 5 rounds): Round 1: MC. Round 2: *2 MC, 1 C1, 1 MC*. Round 3: *1 MC, 3 C1*. Round 4: as round 2. Round 5: MC. Knit one round in MC. Decrease round 3 (MC): S: *k2, k2tog* 34 times. (102 sts) M: *k1, k2tog* 20 times, then *k2, k2tog* 22 times. (106 sts) L: *k1, k2tog* 52 times, then *k2, k2tog* twice. (110 sts) XL: *k1, k2tog* 56 times, then *k2, k2tog* twice. (118 sts) Knit 2 rounds in MC.
7. 7NeckbandChange to the 3.5 mm 40 cm circular and work *k1, p1* rib in MC for 3 cm. (102 (106, 110, 118) sts) Bind off loosely in rib. If you want a slightly higher back neck, work 4-6 short rows across the back after joining the yoke.
8. 8FinishingGraft the 14 (16, 18, 20) held body and sleeve sts together at each underarm with Kitchener stitch. Weave the color tails in behind stitches of the same color. Soak the sweater in lukewarm water, squeeze and dry flat; blocking evens out the colorwork stitches.
