Crochet Mesh Summer Cardigan

1. 1Mesh patternThe foundation chain is the number of squares x 2 + 4. Row 1: dc in 6th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch* to end. Row 2: ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), turn, dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next dc* to end, working the last dc into the 3rd ch of the turning chain. Repeat row 2; the number of squares stays the same on every row.
2. 2BackCh 100 (110, 120, 130) and work the mesh pattern. (48 (53, 58, 63) squares) Work 58 (60, 62, 64) rows (cm) and fasten off. Shoulders: 15 (17, 19, 21) squares at each end; the center 18 (19, 20, 21) squares form the back neck.
3. 3FrontsCh 48 (52, 58, 62). (22 (24, 27, 29) squares) Work 38 (39, 40, 41) rows straight. V-neck: decrease 1 square at the neck edge every 2nd row 7 (7, 8, 8) times. Decrease at the start of a row: sl st into the first space and the next dc, then continue with ch 4. Decrease at the end of a row: leave the last space unworked, end at the previous dc and turn. (15 (17, 19, 21) squares) Continue straight to 58 (60, 62, 64) rows. Make the second front as a mirror image.
4. 4SleevesCh 84 (88, 92, 96). (40 (42, 44, 46) squares) Work 15 rows and fasten off.
5. 5AssemblySew the shoulders square by square with the dc lined up. Match the center of each sleeve's foundation edge to the shoulder seam and sew it to the body; the sleeve reaches 20 (21, 22, 23) cm down the front and back from the shoulder. Sew the underarm and side seams in one go.
6. 6Picot edgingJoin at the lower right front corner. Round 1: along the hem, fronts and neck, work 2 sc in each space, 2 sc in each row-end and 3 sc at the corners. Round 2: 1 sc in each st. Round 3: *3 sc, ch 3, sl st into first ch (picot)* around. Work 1 round of sc and 1 round of picots around the sleeve edges.
7. 7FinishingWeave in the ends. Soak the cardigan, lay it flat and pin the edges so the mesh squares open up evenly as it dries.
