Crochet Jar Cozy

1. 1Base: rounds 1-4Make a magic ring. Rounds are joined with a sl st to the first stitch and begin with ch 1 (does not count). Round 1: 6 sc in the ring (6). Round 2: inc in each st (12). Round 3: *1 sc, inc* 6 times (18). Round 4: *2 sc, inc* 6 times (24).
2. 2Base: rounds 5-8Round 5: *1 sc, inc, 2 sc* 6 times (30). Round 6: *4 sc, inc* 6 times (36). Round 7: *2 sc, inc, 3 sc* 6 times (42). Round 8: *6 sc, inc* 6 times (48). Hold the base against the bottom of the jar; it should be about 9 cm across.
3. 3Turning the edgeRound 9: Ch 1, working in back loops only, 1 sc in each st, sl st (48 sc). Working in back loops creates a clear edge between the base and the sides, so the cozy hugs the bottom of the jar neatly.
4. 4First V-stitch roundRound 10: Ch 3 (counts as the first dc), ch 1, 1 dc in the same st (first V); *skip 1 st, V in the next st* 23 times. Join with a sl st to the 3rd chain of the ch 3 (24 V).
5. 5BodyRounds 11-21: Sl st into the ch-sp of the first V, ch 3, ch 1, 1 dc in the same space; work 1 V in the ch-sp of each V and join with a sl st (24 V). Slip the cozy onto the jar after each round to check the height; after round 21 it should be about 1.5 cm below the jar's shoulder.
6. 6Top edgeRound 22: Ch 1, 2 sc in the ch-sp of each V, sl st (48 sc). Round 23: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st, sl st (48 sc). Cut the yarn leaving 15 cm.
7. 7FinishingWeave in the ends. Wet the cozy and let it dry on the jar so it takes the jar's shape. If you like, weave the ribbon in and out between the Vs of round 21 and tie a bow at the front. To wash, take the cozy off the jar and wash it by hand.
