Crochet V-Stitch Vest

1. 1V-stitch patternThe foundation chain is a multiple of 3 + 4. Row 1: V in 5th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, V in next ch* until 2 ch remain, skip 1 ch, dc in last ch. Row 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, V in the ch-1 space at the center of each V, dc in the turning chain. Repeat row 2. The edge dcs are not counted in the number of Vs.
2. 2BackCh 70 (79, 85, 94) and work row 1. (22 (25, 27, 30) Vs) Continue in pattern; when the piece measures 36 (37, 38, 39) cm (about 25 (26, 27, 27) rows), work the armhole row: sl st across the first 2 (2, 2, 3) Vs to the space of the last skipped V, ch 3 there, V in each following space until 2 (2, 2, 3) Vs remain, dc in the space of the next V and turn. (18 (21, 23, 24) Vs) Continue straight until the armhole measures 20 (21, 22, 23) cm and fasten off.
3. 3FrontsCh 37 (40, 46, 49) and work row 1. (11 (12, 14, 15) Vs) At the same height as the back, shape the armhole at the side edge only (2 (2, 2, 3) Vs removed). (9 (10, 12, 12) Vs) Make the second front as a mirror image, with the armhole shaping at the other end of the row.
4. 4V-neckStarting on the row after the armhole row, decrease 1 V at the neck edge every 3rd row 4 (4, 5, 5) times. Decrease at the start of a row: ch 3, only 1 dc in the first V space, then continue with Vs. Decrease at the end of a row: V until the last V remains, only 1 dc in the last V space. (5 (6, 7, 7) Vs per shoulder) Fasten off when the length matches the back.
5. 5SeamsAt the shoulders, sew the 5 (6, 7, 7) Vs of each front to the 5 (6, 7, 7) Vs at each end of the back; 8 (9, 9, 10) Vs remain at the center back for the neck. Sew the side edges from the hem up to the armholes.
6. 6EdgingStarting at the lower right front corner, work 3 rounds of sc along the hem, left front, back neck and right front; work 2 sc in each row-end, 2 sc in each V space and 3 sc at the corners. Work 2 rounds of sc around each armhole. If you like, leave a ch-2 buttonhole on the right front at chest level and sew on a button.
7. 7FinishingWeave in the ends, dampen the vest and dry it flat.
