Corner-to-Corner Knit Lap Blanket

Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Cast onCast on 4 sts. Increase row: k2, yo, knit to end (each row adds 1 st). The first row gives 5 sts. Work every row as an increase row; the piece grows like a triangle opening from one corner.
2. 2Increase sectionKeep working increase rows until one of the two straight sides of the triangle measures 90 cm. This is about 178 rows and 182 sts. Lay the work flat to measure the edges; move to the circular needle as the stitches multiply.
3. 3Marking the long sideBecause the blanket will be 90 x 110 cm, one side must grow 20 cm more. Clip a removable marker into the last stitch of the side that will keep growing. From now on, rows starting at the marked edge are increase rows and rows starting at the other edge are decrease rows.
4. 4Straight sectionDecrease row: k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to end (each row loses 1 st). Work an increase row on rows starting at the marked edge and a decrease row on rows starting at the other edge, keeping the stitch count the same (182 sts). Continue until the marked side measures 110 cm, about 40 rows.
5. 5Decrease sectionNow work every row as a decrease row: k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to end. The stitch count drops by 1 every row and the work narrows towards the opposite corner. Continue until 4 sts remain (about 178 rows).
6. 6Bind off and finishingBind off the remaining 4 sts. Weave the ends into the garter along the edges. Soak the blanket, squeeze it out, lay it flat and straighten the corners to 90 degrees as it dries; the eyelet edge will open up neatly.
