Knitted Chair Cushion

1. 1Top squareWith A, cast on 46 sts. Knit every row for 92 rows (46 ridges). Bind off loosely. The square should measure about 38 x 38 cm (46 sts).
2. 2Bottom squareWith B, knit a second square the same way: 46 sts, 92 rows of garter, bind off. Both squares must be the same size; if not, wet them and dry them to size.
3. 3TiesWith A, knit 2 ties: cast on 4 sts and knit every row for 144 rows (about 60 cm), then bind off. Garter ties do not curl and are strong.
4. 4JoiningPlace the two squares WS together. With A, whipstitch three sides together through the edge stitches. Slip the foam in between and sew the fourth side.
5. 5Attaching the tiesFold each tie in half. Sew the fold securely to one of the two back corners of the cushion with a few strong stitches. Each corner then has two ends to tie around the chair's back leg or upright.
6. 6FinishingWeave the ends into the seams. Place the cushion on the chair and tie the ties in bows. If it needs washing, unpick the seam on one side and remove the foam.
