Crochet Christmas Wreath

1. 1Ring coverWith light green, ch 101. Row 1: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and 1 hdc in each remaining ch (99 hdc). Turn. Rows 2-14: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), 1 hdc in the back loop only of each st (99). Turn. Working in back loops gives the strip a fine ribbed texture. The strip should measure about 66 x 12 cm and wrap comfortably around the thickness of the ring.
2. 2Wrapping the ringWrap the strip around the ring so its long edges meet at the inner back of the ring. Whipstitch the long edges together all the way along with the yarn needle, then sew the two short ends together. The fabric stretches a little on the outer edge and gathers slightly on the inner edge; this is normal.
3. 3Holly leavesWith dark green, make 12 leaves. Ch 10. First side: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, picot, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, picot, 1 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in next ch, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in last ch for the tip. Second side: Work along the other side of the chain in reverse order: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, picot, 2 dc, picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc; join with sl st to the first sc. Each leaf has 4 picots and a pointed tip.
4. 4Red berriesWith red, make 15 berries. Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12). Round 3: 1 sc in each st (12). Round 4: sc2tog 6 times (6). Stuff with red yarn scraps, thread the yarn through the remaining 6 sts, pull tight and leave a 15 cm tail.
5. 5Bow and hangerBow: With red, ch 31, work 30 sc starting in the 2nd ch, and work 10 rows of sc (30 sc). Pinch in the middle. Ch 9 and work a small band of 8 sc for 3 rows, wrap it around the pinched middle and sew in place. Hanger: With red, ch 40 and work 1 sl st in each ch starting from the 2nd ch from hook.
6. 6DecoratingArrange the leaves in overlapping clusters of two or three over the top half or one side of the ring and attach them with the yarn needle (or a little hot glue). Sew the berries in groups of three between the leaf clusters using their tails. Sew the bow at the bottom center.
7. 7FinishingLoop the hanger around the top of the ring and sew its ends securely. Hide all ends inside the cover. Hang the wreath on a door or wall.
