Crochet Round Cushion

1. 1Circle: first roundsStart the front with A. Make a magic ring. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 11 dc into ring; join with sl st to top of ch-3 (12 dc). Round 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, inc in each remaining st (24 dc). Round 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc, *inc, 1 dc* 11 times (36 dc). Start every round with ch 3 and join with a sl st; the ch-3 always counts as 1 dc.
2. 2Circle: increase ruleEvery round has 12 increases, so each round has 12 more dc than the last. On round N: *inc, 1 dc in each of next N-2 sts* 12 times (12 x N dc). Round 4: 48 dc, round 5: 60 dc ... round 16: 192 dc. To keep the circle from turning into a hexagon, move the increase to the middle of the repeat on even rounds, e.g. on round 6 work *2 dc, inc, 2 dc*.
3. 3Front colorsWork the front in this color order: rounds 1-4 A, rounds 5-8 B, rounds 9-12 C, rounds 13-16 A. Join the new color with ch 3 at the start of the round. After round 16 the circle should measure about 35 cm and lie flat (192 dc).
4. 4BackWork the back entirely in A with the same rules for 16 rounds (192 dc). Both circles must have the same stitch count; compare their sizes.
5. 5JoiningWeave the ends into the circles. Place the two circles WS together. With A, round 17: work 1 sc in each st, going through matching sts of both circles (192 sc). When two thirds of the edge is joined, insert the cushion or stuff with fiberfill, then complete the round and join with sl st.
6. 6EdgingRound 18: Without cutting, ch 1 and work 1 reverse single crochet (crab stitch) in each sc, moving left to right (192 sts). This edging covers the joining seam like a corded frame.
7. 7FinishingCut the yarn and close with a sl st. Pull the tail into the cushion with the yarn needle and trim. Shape the cushion by hand.
