Crochet V-Stitch Pattern

1. 1Stitch multiple and foundationV-stitch starts on a multiple of 3 ch + 4; each V-st takes up 3 chains and the extra 4 form the edges. For the swatch, ch 34 (3 x 10 + 4).
2. 2Row 1V-st in 5th ch from hook (the first 3 skipped ch count as a dc and 1 ch is skipped), *skip 2 ch, V-st in next ch; rep from * 9 times, skip 1 ch, dc in last ch. (10 V-sts, plus an edge dc each side)
3. 3Pattern row (1-row repeat)Row 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, V-st in the ch-1 sp at the centre of each V-st (10 V-sts), dc in top of the turning chain from the previous row. Row 3 and all following rows: as Row 2. The V-sts sit right on top of the ones below; working into the space is easier than counting stitches and makes mistakes less likely.
4. 4Crochet the swatchWork Row 2 thirteen times, for 14 rows in total; the piece will measure about 14 cm. Every row should end with 10 V-sts and two edge dc. If you forget the edge dc in the turning chain, the piece will narrow on one side.
5. 5What to make with itV-stitch works up fast, so it's ideal for baby blankets, summer tops, shawls and scarves. For a baby blanket, ch 157 (a multiple of 3 + 4; 51 V-sts, about 73 cm) and work to 80 cm; about 300 g of yarn is enough. Changing between two colours every 2 rows shows off the Vs beautifully.
6. 6FinishingAfter the last row, cut and pull the yarn through, then weave in the ends through the edge dc. If you like, work a round of sc around the edges as a frame. Dampen the swatch, lay it flat and let it dry.
